Posting charges
« on: January 30, 2012, 12:24:46 AM »
Hi all!

I would really appreciate any advice on how to make sure posting charges are accurate. And if there are any tips on how to avoid errors like getting the CPT codes mixed up example a 99223 becomes a 99232. I have to constantly do an audit with the front office staff.

Thanks for your help.

Audits are really the only way to ensure accurate postings.  Sounds like you may have a problem with the staff that needs to be addressed.  Maybe they are going to fast, or maybe there are no consequences for errors.  I'm not saying each error needs punishment, but maybe if they had to fix their mistakes or if they had some consequence for too many mistakes they would be more careful.

I agree with Michele, that auditing is the only way. Maybe you could have a little meeting with them and explain that these are two separate codes and what both codes mean. Explain to them that you are not trying to be harsh, but if you get audited by Medicare the Medical Records will not reflect the code that was entered wrong. If for some reason you do not catch the error.

Good luck!
