: Does Medicare cover personal care assistants?
: Michele January 11, 2016, 11:16:59 AM
I have a question.  I believe I know the answer but I wanted to make sure there were not any recent changes in this.

I had someone contact me who wants to enroll in Medicare.  They are a personal care assistant.  They go into the home and cook, clean, help with any grooming etc.  I am not aware that Medicare pays for these services by an independent personal care assistant.  She was told that they do.  She is enrolled in her state Medicaid and is reimbursed by them (for 10 years).  Does anyone know of Medicare reimbursing for this?

I have never heard of Medicare(or any other payer) paying for this. If the patient is on hospice, they cover a CNA coming in to bathe the patient, and for respite care every so often for the caregivers, but that is as close as it gets, to my knowledge.

Me neither but I like to make sure by checking with others.  I never claim to know all there is!  Thanks for verifying.  :)

By any chance, do you know as well what code to bill for senior sitter (non-medical caregiver)?
