ELECTRONIC FILING
« on: October 06, 2008, 04:35:22 PM »
In order to file claims electronically does the billing service and/or clearinghouse have to register the provider with the insurance companies in order for their claims to be accepted electronically?  Also, how long does it take to get electronic filing up and running once you have chosen a clearing house?  Thank you.

Some insurance carriers have specific forms they need completed in order for you to submit claims to them electronically.  Others don't.  Once you have chosen a clearinghouse you need to get the software set up.  Then usually you need to submit a test batch to get cleared for production.  That usually only takes about a week or sometimes two, depending on how quickly the installation goes.

Usually the clearinghouse will indicate which insurance carriers require special paperwork.
