Urgent Care Billing
« on: February 15, 2011, 05:16:29 PM »
Howdy all,
We just signed on an Urgent Care group and wanted to know what to expect in billing, such as CPT codes and modifiers to use for OV?

Thanks in advance!

Congratulations!

Billing for urgent care is very similar to billing for family practice.  The visits are not scheduled, but they are still just medical office visits.  You may use the coees for after hours or weekends/holidays, but other than that it shouldn't be too different.  Can't think of any specific modifiers that you would use and the cpt codes will be the same.

Best of luck!

thanks Michelle!!

One other question my boss asked me about:  Something to do with getting credentialed as an Urgent Center by "Jayco" (Sp??) which the carriers require but it costs lots of $$$.  We suspect they are billing as POS 11 and not 20 to get around this credentialing issue.  I have been asked to contact BCBS and find out what this is all about.
Are you familiar with any thing like this?

I am not familiar with "Jayco".  I would contact BCBS.  I don't know if the POS would have that affect or not.

Please share what you find out.

I agree with Michele.   I have billed for urgent cares and there really is not a difference in the codes to use.   (as long as you are listed as office and not facility)

Oh, that's why I hadn't heard of them.  Didn't even connect the spelling!
