Capitation payments
« on: June 28, 2011, 02:06:37 AM »
Can anyone remind me how or what I need to do with a capitation payment. Do I bill the insurance and then write the visit off as capitation. Having a brain freeze and can't remember what to do, please help me! Thank you.

It depends on the carrier. Some carrier's want the bill, some don't. Either way you want to put it in your system the way they require it so that you have an accurate accounting. Make sure you create your capitated payment codes and visits.  I only deal with two companies and it's just small amount. i generate the record when we get the payments in as neither company require a CMS1500.

Do you wait to post the capitation check until have it in hand or do you just adjust those accounts off as capitation? I an having a brain block and can't remember anything abiut those capitation accounts. I feel stupid for asking, because I know the answer, my brain is just not working this week. Thank you.

I do them when they come in to protect the audit trail.  I post all my payments according to when they are received.
