Coding for postsurgery status

senario:  prev dx on file 724.2..  patient was seen 30 days later, doctor coded office visit 99213 and for the dx he wrote= s/p back surgery   After researching would dx=V45.89?     would I submitt the bill with the dx V45.89 or just continue to use 724.2..  need help.. thank you

The primary dx would usually be the dx for the reason for the back surgery with the V45.89 as a secondary.
