: Mental Health Group

I bill for mental health providers and recently got a group practice and I'm not sure how to set it up.  The group has a Tax id# and NPI#.  The providers don't have a Tax id, but each have an NPI#.  Until now all of my providers have been individuals so I'm confused as to how to input the information so it will appear correctly on the claim.  I use Medisoft.  Do I set up the practice under the group name and list the providers?  How will I be able to put the two different NPI #'s on the claim?  How do I have the group name appear on the claim?  Thanks.

I dont know diddly about Medisoft.  I never used or played with it.  But, the claims will go out using the group tax id number.  The provider NPI will be in the approproate NPI block on the claim form.

When I used Lytec, and other programs, I set up the practice showing their numbers such as tax ID, Medicaid  and Medicare Group Number.  Thise numbers went in the appropriate claim form blocks.  I created doctors in the doctor data base. That is where their personal numbers went.

But, that was it.  Im sure someone with Medisoft expertise can help.  Just double check to make sure your data is correct before sending.

There should be a place to enter the practice info, then a separate place to enter each individual provider info.  You should enter the practice info using the group name, tax ID and group npi.  Then when you enter the individual providers you should enter their individual NPI in the place provided in Medisoft.  They should also allow for youto enter the group NPI and Tax ID as well.  Then when claims are created, whether electronic, or paper, the numbers should all end up in the correct locations.

On paper claims the individual NPI goes in 24J, the group NPI in 33A and the EIN in 25.

I entered the information as you suggested.  24J prints provider NPI, 25 prints the group EIN, 31 prints provider name, 31 prints provider name instead of group, and 33a prints group NPI.  Does the group name have to appear in 33.  The provider name prints in 33 because it comes from the same place as 31.  If I can't figure it out, will it be okay to print both provider name and group name.  If so, I can add the group name to the provider's name which will print both.

I wouldn't do that. Why don't you call your vendor or tech support?

I would also recommend calling tech support for the Medisoft, there must be a way to print the form showing the group name in box 33.  It should be a minor adjustment as Medisoft is similar to Lytec.  I can go into the form and tell it whether to print the practice name, or the individual provider.
