: Training Rates

Hello everyone!

What should someone charge for providing training?  The training is split into multiple areas, so I'm trying to figure out what I should charge for each individual area as they would not be the same.

Areas:
to
1.  EHR trainings - how to navigate in an electronic health record
2.  Information system/coding training - how to work within a particular information system to code records
3.  ICD-10 training - coder training
4.  ICD-10 training - provider

The 3 areas listed above will be the most common trainings being provided.  As you can see, each training will be unique to the user.  The rate will be a per hour rate, including my overhead costs (i.e. travel, etc.).  I don't want to set my rates too high but I also want to make sure that I'm compensated.  I will be traveling to different sites to provide the training, which could be a 3 hour drive from my location.

I'm in need of guidance soon as I'm in the process of adding the requests to a contract.  Right now I've been doing consulting work and auditing, which the rate I charge to do those pieces are much higher than probably what I should charge for the training, or maybe not?  Maybe I should stick with my consultant rate?  HELP!!!!

Honestly, the rates I have seen for the training you are talking about run about $100 an hour. With no travel costs, because it is done over the phone. So you can tack on your travel expenses, based on what they are.

Whatever you charge, don't sell yourself short. Many doctors still have done nothing in preparation for ICD-10, because they still don't think it will happen. When it does happen, they will be looking for someone like you to help them. Charge accordingly.

Wow, I wasn't even thinking that number..I'm way off!!  The training will be done on-site.  What's you're thoughts on charging for performing ICD-10 audits?

Thanks for the help!! :) :)

I charge a lot higher for onsite consulting and training.. $200 and up, but I will create training packages that include all expenses including travel. I wouldn't touch a client for training over 2-4 hours away w/out 1/2 up front either. JMHO
