I am thinking about starting my own billing business in new jersey, can someone point me in the right direction.  Where do I begin?

Training first would be a good idea, you don't give any indication as to your training and / or experience so it's hard to direct you.
In NJ you must be registered with the Depart of Insurance/Banking, you will need to follow their guidelines on registration/updates.

I went to school for billing and coding, finished with a medical billing certificate.  Also, worked two years, one with a chiropractic billing company and one year with a physical therapist billing company.

Great! What you will want to do is register your business. In NJ you have to go through your county first due to zoning issues, get your Tax ID, register with the State dept of banking/insurance using their registration process: http://www.state.nj.us/dobi/division_insurance/managedcare/tpapage.htm#tpb

Just a tip, but they are being real sticklers, so dot your i's and cross your t's!

Thank you so much!  I will start there.  Do you think it would be difficult for me to bill for other specialties since I have only billed for chiro's and physical therapists?

No, I don't think it would be difficult at all. It's best to stick to your specialty first when you are marketing and as you gain clients you can learn the other specialties you are interested in.
