E codes for fall
« on: May 08, 2013, 03:03:56 PM »
Hi, Dr. or the NP sees a patient due to fall.  They have sent me an E code E884.9 or E888.9.  I checked these codes and they are valid, however, our clearinghouse keeps on kicking it back to us due to invalid codes.  I called our software and they checked into it and it is a valid code.  Now the clearinghouse and the software told me that I will have to call Medicare and other commercial insurance to find out what code we need to use.

I called BC, Aetna and they stated that - they cannot help me but to check out the codes.  I called Medicare and they basically told me the same, which I explained to them that these are the codes that they are diagnosing the patients.  I would like to get your help to please let me know if I am using this codes correctly. One of the drs. stated that this is the primary code he wants to use.

If you would be so so kind to help me out here  :'(

Be sure to list the injuries 1st and the E code after.  As in, this is what's hurt, and this is what caused it.
