Code J8499 - Rx drug, oral, non-chemo, NOS... Does this mean a healthcare provider actually handing the pill, liquid, etc to the patient to be taken orally? Or is it for the cost of the actual drug they are giving to the patient? Our facility does not prescribe or handle drugs so I am not familiar with the code.

Thanks.

J codes refer to the drugs themselves, not the administration of said drugs. The administration codes, if applicable, are billed separately.

QUESTION...  Does anyone know if these oral chemo drug charges are separately billable by a SNF when the patient is an inpatient under PPS-Medicare A?  In our case, the drug is Axitinib/"Inlyta", and is billed under J8999.  I see that the J9xxxx codes are "excluded from SNF Consolidated Billing", but there is nothing about the J8xxxx codes.  To me, this means that they are included in the SNF payment, and this is why we are having difficulty placing a patient in a SNF.  Any thoughts?
