Modifiers AT & -25
« on: October 27, 2008, 05:36:48 PM »
Hi Michele,

I recently purchased your Billing Course for Chiropractic billing - but I'm a little confused about the use of modifiers. Is the modifier AT used on manipulation codes (98940, 98941, 98942) only for Medicare claims or for commercial as well?

Also, do I need to use the -25 modifer when there is an E&M code for a new patient?

Thanks so much,
Charity

Michele

Hi Charity,

In our experience the AT modifier is only used by Medicare, or Medicare HMO's.

I would use the 25 modifier on E&M codes for new patients if you are billing for other services on the same visit.  Example:

99203  25
98941

Thanks
Michele
