Home Health Care Billing
« on: May 02, 2009, 01:20:03 PM »
Hello-

Does anyone out there in medical billing land bill for skilled services (PT/OT/ST) that IS NOT a home health company?  I have several clients that would be interested in seeing patients in their homes but I'm getting a ton of conflicting answers.  I know that Home Health Care Services/Agencies perform these but they are not part of a home health agency.  They are in private practice.  They are awaiting what I can find out.  So far, one patient has Horizon BCBS of NJ and other other has Medicare.  I've never billed for home care and can't find a whole lot of information on the web available.  Any ideas? thoughts?  Thanks!

I have never billed but I will help you research. Am I correct in saying the PT/OT/ST works for a private practice, but they want to perform some home visits? Are they doing this on their own, or are they working for the individual private practice in doing this. I would think if they are performing under the "private practice" then it would be billed out as usual, but only the place of service would be (12) for home. I'm viewing it the same as if a physician in private practice went to see a patient at his home. Let me know if I am right in what you are asking, and I will be glad to help you try to find the correct answer unless someone else already knows.

Hi-Thanks for the reply.....paymyclaims.  You are right.  They own a private practice clinic...he is the owner and also the PT.  He may do the visits or another PT may do the visits, depending upon their schedules.  Thanks for any input..anyone! :)

I do billing for PT, OT and ST for providers that go to the patient's home.  However, all of the clients are pediatric patients.  For adult patients I would verify whether their insurance provides coverage for home visits.  I know that Medicare and Medicaid can have alot of limitations regarding who can render services in the home.  If I am not mistaken, an individual therapist can not bill Medicare.  They have to be part of a home health agency.  Or that may have been Medicaid.  This is for adult patients, not pediatric.

The carriers that I bill are mainly BCBS, United Healthcare, CIGNA and Aetna.  Medicaid in Texas covers home visits for pediatric patients by individual therapists.
