Best way to find Doctors.
« on: January 22, 2014, 09:38:43 PM »
I am just starting out my medical billing company and I want to find the best way to find Doctors. In your experience is it through chambers of commerce. ( they have annual fee's). I need to maximize my money and I don't want to do a shot in the dark. What has worked for you.

I think the first thing you need to consider is that you are selling YOU. So get yourself out there as much as you can. I assume that you have experience or education for this..so talk the heads off other people and tell them what you do. they may have nothing to do with this field but they may know someone who can use your services.

Local Chamber of commerce and SBA is a must IMHO.. especially if you are in certain areas. You'd be surprised at the connections of other businesses in networking. One of my clients actually owns the local golf course here, found him through our chamber e-group a few years ago when just discussing flyers, I had no idea he was a physician.

This is a best kept secret, and a bit morbid but it works.. scan local obituaries with terms Death, office manager, etc.    Don't laugh.. I've seen people get clients.

Yes indeed it is.. a little discretion does go a long way. Most offices don't realize the person's obituary revealed what they did for a living and where.. of course obit's are usually a couple days later so you can time it just right. I know if I went and did a full nationwide obit search using the key search terms I would turn out a few results :)  Key is knowing the more efficient ways of searching the nets to get diversified results from various online publications ;)   Same with press releases. Companies can do ONE press release and with the proper know how blast it to all publications.   Secrets of marketing.. <wink>

I thought that the local chamber of commerce was the ticket but I wanted to make sure before I joined. I wanted to make sure I wasn't overlooking something. Thanks for the info on the Obit's.

In addition, you want to have a resume. Even if you own your own business, if you have experience in the industry, nothing markets you better than a resume! I only recommend this if you have prior experience. I've even been asked for mine if I market my business and it really does come in handy!  You can also scan sites like monster.com and fax your resume over with a cover letter introducing your company. ONLY do this if it states to fax over a resume!!
Some people have found success on Craigslist.com but I think I'd rather go with more professional referral places.. JMO
