Our billing office is haveing trouble getting a hospital discharge and a nursing home addmission on the same day paid by most insurances. Is there a modifier or another way to bill this so we can recieve some payment?

I have another instance where the pt was admitted to the hospital by a surgeon. Our Dr. saw this patient on the day of discharge but did not do the discharge because the pt was admitted by the surgeon. Our Dr. then did a nursing home admission on the same day. The ins paid all but 1 of code 99232 (the discharge day). Is there a different code of modifier we can use to get that day paid? Thanks so much for your help in advance!!

I have not done this in a while but from memory..they will only pay for one.. so it's whomever gets their claim in first gets paid first.

I have another question pertaining to this. Do you know if we can bill both a hospital discharge and a nursing home admission on the same day by the same Dr.? I know you have to have the dr discharge from the hospital before they can do an admission to the nursing home, but we are having trouble getting both paid by insurance. Thanks!
