We are a primary care practice and evaluating Billers and billing companies. Do you do billing or have a company that does billing? I would love to hear from you or any recommendations :)

There are many independent billing services on this forum. Are you looking for someone to give you information about billing services? Are you looking into outsourcing and you would like to know what other's experiences have been? Just not sure what info you are looking for. :)

I would like to outsource my billing to a person or a team :)

1. Where is the practice located?
2. What is the practice specialty?
3. Newly established? Established for a while?
4. How informed are you about ICD-10. Uninformed? Reasonably Informed? Well Informed?
5. Are you the provider, or are you speaking on behalf of the provider?
6. What percentage of practice is Medicare (roughly)? (Medicaid)?
7. Does the practice already use an EMR or Practice Management sytem - or do you need one provided?
8. Do you want to work in the cloud, or stay in-house (can keep software and data in-house and biller can access remotely through GoToMyPc or an equivalent. That is not considered "in the cloud" billing.

We are located in Chicagoland, and we are primary care facility and prefer to work with a biller on a commission (percentage of collections) basis versus making na in-house staff hire. We will be investing in purchasing either Medisoft or Lytec to do the work (again in-house).

We don't normally allow advertising without permission but the poster requested information and asked for referrals. I just want to caution anyone considering outsourcing to make sure they do their homework:
- ask lots of questions, it should be like interviewing someone to do the billing inhouse
- get references
- ask for their system on aging
- ask for how they handle denials
Keep in mind, you get what you pay for. Cheap isn't always best. A lower fee of a smaller bottom line does not save money.
