: Changing Practice Location/ Medicare
: Christy October 17, 2014, 04:15:14 PM
What a nightmare to change a practice location with Medicare. I did what I always do, add the new location with the intention of going back at a later date to then delete the old location.

I submitted the 855I 3.5 months ago! Today, I finally get this back:

"PHYSICAL LOCATION AND SPECIAL PAYMENTS ADDRESS Each practice location is required to have a different telephone number that rings at that location directly. You are required to change the phone number for one of the locations so that the phone numbers are different."

3.5 months for that!?!?!? No other errors. I bill for a lot of LCSWs who only use cell phones and bill from multiple offices, all using the same # and have never been flagged by Medicare?

Is this new?

I guess I need to now expire the old address. Wonder how long that will take? :(

thanks!

I've never waited that long.. but I do know the directions tell you about the phone number.. there MUST be a physical phone number of the location they are seeing patients.. cannot be one of the therapists cell phone number.. must be physical locational number.

that depends on your contract. My contracts all include full practice management and this would be part of it. If I'm doing credentialing only it will be included in the contracted amount for credentialing. If you are doing the billing/PM, the 855 really isn't that big of a deal... but you do have to look carefully at details and make sure all numbers match up and info with NPI, IRS, etc.
