Billing EKG to Medicare
« on: December 03, 2008, 09:01:50 PM »
This is an awesome website by the way....

Please, can somebody tell me how much is Medicare/Medicaid fee for 93010 (EKG interpretation). Do they pay for this? MD does this in the hospital and brings face sheet to me to bill. Most of my clients does not accept Medicare/Medicaid so I am not familiar with this.

Somebody please help. Thanks.

Jo

Hi,
Glad you like the website!  :)

The fees for 93010 vary depending on the area you are in (part of the country).  Most Medicare carriers post their fee schedules on their websites.  Our local Medicare (Upstate NY) allows $8.61 for a participating provider for the 93010 code.  It will vary some based on area but that should give you an idea of what to expect.

I code for an internal Med doctor. The ICD-9 code has to show medical necessity for the EKG for Medicare to pay for it.

Very true.  The diagnosis must support the need for the EKG.  Medicare only covers 93010 for certain diagnoses.
