I'm curious to know what other billers think about using software from companies that offer a billing service.  I just saw Kareo now offers billing services for their customers which is new for them but I also know Caretracker does it and there are at least a few others that I can't think of at the moment.  I'm wondering if others are uneasy about using a software that competes directly with them or not.  Maybe it is just me but I'm curious how other people feel.

Kareo has offered a billing service for a while now.  Office Ally offers a billing service.  Each has thousands of satisfied customers who use the software but not the billing service.

I didn't know they did and it says "NEW" on their website and it wasn't listed last week when I looked at it so it was new for me.  I would just get nervous that they would decide to send an email out to all of their customers letting them know they could deal with them directly if they didn't like their billing service.  I've never had that problem but I have two friends that were using Caretracker when they started their billing service and they left them.  I was just curious to hear what others thought.

My bad.  I saw Kareo and immediately thought Practice Fusion. PF has had billing services for a while.  I am somewhat familiar with the Kareo software, but don't know about billing services they offer.  It's raining here in Los Angeles right now.  Must have short-circuited my neural circuits.

I utilize Kareo for a few clients.. and no your not alone, in fact I had not seen this until you brought it up. http://www.kareo.com/billing-service     I sent a message to them to see if they had any comment. This would be a concern to me as well.

These type of companies give me a small bit of pause, but I honestly don't worry about them stealing my clients and or running me out of business. Truth is with this economy everyone is ahem "expanding" their services, but what doctors find out is these companies are specialist or good at it or outsource it to people who are not good at it. So I just don't worry about it per se. I'm aware but it doesn't stop me from using their services. If it's the best software I go for it.  If I ever found out one was soliciting my clients I'd go and sue them, because I haven't met an agreement that said they could. Just be mindful, read the fine print, and if they do it be sure to ask them about it before signing-up or on to use their software for your clients. The best way to get it out of the way is to make it known that this is a concern for you, as we have too much to worry about as is.

Don't worry. Be happy.

I received the following back from Kareo. Given their great support and program and above all reputation, I'm not too worried at all. :)

Hi Linda! Thank you for reaching out. You ask an important question. We are fortunate to have one of the largest networks of billing service customers and believe their billing expertise and relationships they build with their customers can’t be beat. In fact, we are formalizing a more aggressive and more supportive program to help them grow their businesses. You’ll see more details on that program toward the end of the month. Do we have a Kareo branded billing service option, too? Yes. We launched this service to fill the constant requests from our small medical practice customers. For those customers who express the need for a more regionally focused billing service, we route those leads to our billing service customers. That’s something we’ve done for years and will continue to do. Here’s a little more formal information on what’s going on at Kareo – http://www.kareo.com/news/press-releases/2013-01-22-kareo-raises-20million-to-fuel-growth

Just remember, all major billing companies send their work off shore, that is how they make money. I am certain Kareo would do the same. They would have a sales and support team here.  Someone at Karoe came up with an idea to " monetize " the 16,000 + providers they have by selling them billing services.
I would have qualms doing business with those that sell billing services as well.

NOT VERY COOL to those of us who utilize them as billing companies.   They will be losing customers. NO doubt about it.

I too use Kareo as billing software.  I have used them since 2008.  When I found out that they were going to start offering a billing service to their clients as well, I was a little concerned but I haven't had any problems with them so far.  I am looking at other avenues to use as software so if any one has any suggestions. Please let me know.  Thanks

YES! KAREO outsource billing OFFSHORE. I can list the name of the companies: Omega Healthcare in Chennai, and Global Health Care Resource in India. These are just two that I came across. They don't have a billing department in US. I was so pissed to learn about this, they do it for 4%... and Eclinicalworks do it for just 2.9%.

They are tough competitors and definitely not playing it fair...

SO far I have not had them approach any of my clients.. but I've also learned they will NOT sign non-compete's either (which rarely hold up anyway).
I do not have my subscriptions in my billing company name, each client that utilizes them, does so at their own cost/subscription. I have my own secure and compliant login's.

I'm not too worried as I have a strong angle to persuade providers from going offshore.. CHEAP they are.. and cheap the providers will get.. AT their own risk.

We don't need to worry so much about their cheap prices as long as we maintain professionalism and continued education to persuade them of the very high risks associated with offshore outsourcing. We can't stop it, but we sure as heck can do our best to disparage it.

Have you explored on ClaimTek's MedOffice software?  Try googling them:  MedOffice + Medical Billing or Practice Management

Their MedOffice system comes in different formats:  They have full-client install of MedOffice for desktop/laptop or server,  MedOffice Online (ASP) Cloud Computing Model: Access Online 24/7, •MedOffice® Remote: Satellite Version for Some Doctors, or if you want just want 1 license key, you can get from a MedOffice VAR (value-added reseller).

I thought that was interesting to keep their packages scaleable and secured from internet or web-based interfaces.

I also like Kareo esp their best practices guidelines and procedures.
