Billing for SBI
« on: March 23, 2011, 05:09:15 PM »
I'm curious if any billiers are billing out the Screenings and Brief Interventions for Alcohol and Drug Abuse and getting paid for them?  Also, becuause this falls under mental health services is it being subject to a benefit max??????

Thanks

I haven't billed that specifically but I would think it would fall under the MH benefit max.

Some plans have separate benefit for substance and alcohol abuse so you have to actually call the carrier(s).  nearly all will require an authorization anyway.

The SBI's are now a requirement when pt.'s present into the ED for treatment and they appreqr to be under the influence..  Most of these are now covered under grants but I'm catching wind that some carries are covering this.  It's really a new procedure so I was reaching out to see if anyone has billed on this yet.
