can I bill Medicare if the patient is deceased?

sounds like fraud, sure, but what if the services were provided while the patient was alive.  would this be a trigger for an audit, should I even bother if this patient was never billed and has since passed away?

we deal with that all the time in DME- custom rehab with client with ALS. by the time we deliver the equipment, and get ready to bill, client is deceased
