Kareo Online Medical Billing Software
« on: September 01, 2008, 09:55:20 AM »
Hey,
I clicked on the link that's on your website for this company. Could you tell me a little more about this?

What about using an online company? Would I be able to import my clients should I decide to purchase a billing software for my computer.  Seems like they take alot of the work associated with Data Entry of clients which would free up more time.

Are there other online companies that are recommended?

Thanks,
Angela Rathbone

Hi,
Some of our pages have ads on them that we are not familiar with the products.  We are not recommending them, the companies just advertise on our site, so I cannot give you any further info.  I have heard of Kareo, and I haven't heard anything bad, but I personally can't tell you much.  I would guess though that you would not be able to import clients if you choose to purchase software down the road.  When you use an online system you are 'renting' the software, so you don't own it.  You would need someone (a programmer) to 'convert' the data and I don't think an online program will allow that.

I do know that the provider is responsible for a lot of the input, but I know that for my clients wouldn't go for that.  They hire me to alleviate their staff from the input.  But, there are a lot of services out there that use that system and it works for them.  It depends on your plans for your business.

Hope that helps!

Michele

I've never really advertised companies I don't know anything about...  :o <scratches head>

Kareo is an ASP based PM System. One of the things this industry is moving towards is more control for the provider.

<<I do know that the provider is responsible for a lot of the input, but I know that for my clients wouldn't go for that>>

As for entering patient data/demographics.. a billing company that does more than just "submit claims" is the company that will save the average practice money in outsourcing so they will be entering the patient demographics. Kareo does provide data conversions depending on the software you are converting from. Not all conversions go smoothly. I have several clients on Kareo that love it.. a few little glitches with NPI but overall not bad. Kareo does have a slower support time and they seem to have little patience or dealing with the start up companies.

I think in today's industry we have to offer more to our clients in the way of seeing their accounts live and/remote.. one of the challenges of a billing company is keeping up with co-pay's and patient out-of-pocket .. with using a software remotely or ASP based the provider need only log on and can see the patient's account.

I have been using Kareo since May. I absolutely love it!!!  I did a lot of research before I made my decision.  It's very cost effective, user friendly, a huge time saver when it comes to posting payments and gives you everything that you need for a medical billing service. A huge plus to this system is that the billing program and the clearinghouse work together as one.  There is no need to have a separate clearinghouse.  They use 2 clearinghouses, Gateway, which in my opinion is one of the best out there and also Officeally.  It has 3 different payment options to choose from.  So if some of your clients are smaller/larger, you can pick which package is right for that client.  The price ranges are $69, $129 and $199.  The highest package also includes a scheduling system for the practices to use, which I highly reccommend for PCP's.  I also run a service out of my home.  I have a variety of providers, whom also love the software.  I can set up my providers, send the EFT/ERA registration forms to Gateway, which is their clearinghouse, they do all the work for you with the insurance companies.  In the meantime, you can still bill electronically within 3 days of signing up with them.  There are very few payers that require registration to submit electronically.  I'm getting faster and faster each time I set up a new provider.  But My last ofc I set up was a FP, he was receiving ERA's and EFT's within 21 days. With the exception of Medicare.  However, I must say that Medicare only took 3 weeks.  Now we are seeing payments come in between 5-7 days from all the major carriers.  Once your payments are coming in by ERA, all you have to do is click one button and the system posts the paymet for you.  The only downside to this system that I can say is that if you have no experience setting up practices and mapping insurances, the initial client you set up may cause you a headache, however on the website there are wonderful ebooks with step by step guides that a child could read.  They also have webinars in the same area going over how to set everything up.  If you can't figure out the system on your own, they do offer a few different technical support options, but that can get pricey.  If anyone needs help or has questions, please feel free to ask me for help.

Actually, Kareo has 2 built in clearinghouses that they use.  Gateway and OfficeAlly.  I use both depending on the insurance company.  Whatever insurance company that I can't submit electronically to through Gateway, you can through OfficeAlly.  You may have figured that out by now.  Sorry it took so long to get back, I was on vacation.  If you need any other help, let me know.  Jill

I'm not familiar with Kareo, but I would give their customer service department a call and ask.

If someone else knows, please share.  :)
