Flu Shot & Level 1
« on: September 22, 2010, 12:53:18 PM »
We are being told by the doctor to bill for a level 1 with each of the flu shots. Is this correct? When is it appropriate to bill a level 1 with a flu shot and when is it not? What documentation is needed? And will this work?  Thanks

What diagnosis are you being told to use?  If the patient is only being seen to receive the flu shot then only the flu shot should be billed.  If the patient is also seen by the dr for a medical condition, then you would bill for the E&M with the medical diagnosis.

Ditto on Michele,

If there is physician counseling involved, then use the administration codes that include the physician counseling.

Only bill a visit if a separately identifiable E/M is performed.
