Looking for training/book suggestions
« on: March 08, 2013, 11:26:36 PM »
I've been doing physical therapy billing for many years and since being laid off I'm looking into doing billing work for other providers. I'm looking for suggestions on short training classes or books that could explain the things that are different between physical therapy and other specialties, particularly internal medicine. I've spoken with a couple practices who are interested in my services but I'd feel more confident if I felt more knowledgeable about other areas!

Thanks!

Michele

If you have been doing PT billing for years I think that taking a course or training class now would be boring for you.  There really are not all that many things that you would need to know.  Internal medicine billing is very similar, just different CPT's.  The insurance issues are basically the same meaning that you need to verify the coverage, copay amounts etc.  Internal Medicine does not usually require auth or referrals like PT does.  Aging and follow up issues are the same, etc.  I think you will have an easy transition.
