Is CPC designation necessary?
« on: July 23, 2012, 09:57:45 PM »
Hello,

I am working on getting my business ready for clients and was considering taking the test to earn my CPC credential/title.  Now I am wondering if that is something I even need to do.  Any suggestions?

Not unless you plan to do coding, I don't think it's necessary. For Billers, it's just imperative you can review codes and know them well enough for suggestions or to send back to the provider for correction. Generally the billing company or biller gets the codes from the physician or the CPC in the office, you can actually make sure this is done via your contract to exclude you from the responsibility of coding.

Thank you so much.  That is actually EXACTLY why I was asking.  Not that I don't want to know how to because I am sure it will be helpful  for me to have a full understanding of codes.  I just didn't think it would be a good idea to take on that kind of responsibility.  Thanks so much.
