Inpatient write offs
« on: May 16, 2012, 09:56:00 PM »
I work for a critical access hospital in Northern California. I bill Medi-Cal outpatient and inpatient. The person I replaced gave me a list of revenue codes to be written off when billing an inpatient claim. Those codes were 260, 309, 762, and 918. However, the charges with those revenue codes add up to a lot of money. My boss recently asked me to find out if it were possible to change any of those non covered codes into covered codes. I have not had much success finding an answer. Does anyone know if it is possible to change a non covered revenue code to a covered revenue code?

You would need to contact Medi-Cal and find out if these codes are covered.  If they're not, they're not.  Medi-Cal is a tough nut, and they are EVER changing with the state's budget.  They usually make their changes in July, so watch for that.

And as far as I understand, if you are a Medi-Cal provider, you get what you get and you CAN'T throw a fit!
