Billing records
« on: March 13, 2009, 02:08:05 PM »
How long does one need to keep billing records?  I did  electronic billing for a dentist about 10 years ago.  How long do I need to keep this info?  The checks and the EOB's went to the office , I only have the patient info.  I would take it and get it shredded if I have no reason to keep them.    Thanks  Patti

The federal law is 7 years, however the rule of thumb is that if your state has a longer period of time than the federal, you follow the state law. NJ for example is one of them.
