Incident To?
« on: April 24, 2014, 03:16:07 PM »
Can someone help me with this?

I have an acupuncturist who is also a DC (doctor of chiropractic.) A major insurance carrier in our area will only reimburse acupuncture if it is performed by an MD or DC. Great, this dr can perform acupuncture services and get paid because he is also a DC.

This dr wants to form an acupuncture group. He would hire acupuncturists to work in his office, under his group NPI. These acupuncturists are NOT MDs or DCs.  Can these acupuncturists perform the services and we bill under the DC?

Also, I don't think these acupuncturists can be credentialed with this carrier, because they are not recognized as L.Acs.

I think no, but the dr thinks yes. Is this "incident to" billing?

thanks!

Hello!

There are many resources explaining "incident to" billing available by a quick search on google however, be sure to add your state to the search.  Incident-to rules vary from state to state as well as allowed procedures within the scope of the provider's specialty.

I found this article explaining a common issue when billing for acupuncture which might help also...

Hope this helps! :)
