ua and urine cx coding
« on: March 25, 2009, 03:20:52 PM »
if a pt drops off a urine sample next day after being seen previous day for dysuria, can i submit 99211 next day for running the urinalyis and urine cx with their respective cpt's, and then if 1 day later, if i need to send that same urine  sample to the lab for further testing can i submit 99211 again.

The 99211 code states face-to-face contact with the patient, so based on what you are describing I don't think it would be appropriate.

so how would you code.
can you just code cpt for ua/ urine cx and not 99211 if the child brings in a urine sample next day.
i was always wondering if you can submit a cpt without a 992..?

If the sample is just being dropped off, the patient is not actually seen or the specimen is not collected in the office, then you would just bill the urinalysis code.
