Could anyone tell me the cost?
« on: April 13, 2013, 03:30:21 PM »
Currently, I've been living in United states for more 1 than year. There is pretty much good chance that I can get a private health insurance with existing condition. But, I will have 5000 deductible with that plan. My medical condition is auditory hallucination. So, I may need 5-10 times visit with doctor for 4 months and I may need treatment for 3-4 months which is only taking tablets daily. There is no surgery or operation needed. How much medical bills may I expect during this treatment?

I'm in Minnesota. I just need to get some idea about close estimation about medical bills. Because, it is out of capacity, then I would go back to my home country for treatment and come back here after treatment.

mdrobiul, if you already have a U.S. doctor, you should discuss your questions with them.  If you don't already have a U.S. doctor, you will be considered a new patient.  Your new patient office visit will be more expensive than your regular office visits.  A regular office visit will probably be around $75 - $125.  I don't know what the new patient visit will be, but probably significantly more, depending on what tests the doctor thinks are necessary.  Since you are new, the doctor will probably want to do an extensive checkup in an effort to narrow down the possible causes of your auditory hallucinations.

If you are looking for an inexpensive way to get started on treatment here in the U.S., you might try a free clinic.  They can point you to specialists who treat your condition

Are you familiar with the information at both of these links?

Thank you so much!  :)

I'm so glad to have your reply. That's very helpful. I did some online research regarding my sickness. Some people recover from it quickly, some dont. But, I did not know about the free clinics at all. I will check them out, and try to find more information from them.

I consulted some doctors in my home country. The doctors said that I would just need to take tablets for 3-4 months and visit them several times. I hope same thing is going to happen here.

Thanks!

Have you made contact with a county worker or the Department of Human Services? If not, here's the website:

I'm not sure exactly what services are available to you but you should definitely contact them, you may be able to get a special secondary insurance plan or something of that nature which will help with costs that are not covered due to your high deductible. Or you could qualify for waived fee services depending on your background and immigration status, and economic assistance based on your income.
