developmental testing, 96111 inquiry
« on: October 19, 2015, 02:49:10 PM »
Greetings,
Does anyone have experience billing 96111 (developmental screening, extended)
The practice I am with does neuropsychology and they are considering broadening their age range to include very young peds.

My questions with this code are:

Is it a 1 unit code or can you bill multiple units of it on the same day?

If it is a 1 unit code, can you bil another code for testing on the ame day like 96116 (neurobehavioral status exam) or 96118, (neuropsychological testing)?

I’m not really able to find any clear answers searching insurance policy bulletins.
Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

Michele

I do not have experience billing it but when I read the description it does not indicate any time, or other way of identifying a unit which tells me that it would not be billed with units.  You can bill other testing codes the question is will they be allowed and/or paid by insurance.  And that will depend on the insurance plan.  I would take a look at the different modifiers that might be appropriate.
