Billing for PA and Dr.
« on: June 29, 2010, 10:41:30 AM »
We have a PA in our office.  She saw a pt and then the Dr. also saw the pt for the same problem.  Can we bill 2 office visits?

The pt came in because she thought she was having a miscarriage.  She made an appt with the physicians assistant because the dr. was booked.  The PA saw her and then the pt asked to see the Dr.  So my question is can I bill for 2 OVs?  I am guessing not.

I don't think you can bill for 2 visits in the same day for the same problem. My understanding is that you have to bill for one or the other and obviously you would want to bill under the doctor to receive 100% of the allowable versus 80%. Hope this helps.

I agree, the PA visit turned into a Dr visit.  I would code to the level indicated by all action taken regarding the patient that day, but bill under one visit.
