New laboratory - NPI vs Medicare Provider Number question
« on: December 01, 2014, 05:44:57 PM »
We are in the process of applying for our Medicare Provider Number but am wondering if our NPI is sufficient for billing "regular" insurers prior to receiving the Medicare #?  Anyone out there know?

I guess it depends on whether or not you are contracting with other "regular" insurances, or not. If you are, then they will assign you a provider number that has to be on the claim, depending on the insurance. In many cases, your NPI is enough, but not for all.
