HIPAA 5010 for Psychology Practice
« on: October 18, 2011, 08:24:55 PM »
Our practice has been overwhelmed with staffing changes the past several months and we now find ourselves in the position of scurrying to learn about 5010 transaction compliance.  I have found several useful websites and am taking loads of reading material home in order to familiarize myself with what needs to be done.

The first thing I've seen is to verify that our software vendor (Therapist Helper) is ready for 5010 compliance.  I've reviewed the Helper website with no success and I've left a message for them...no response yet.  I read a post by another TH user that said the rep @ Helper said mental health didn't have to be compliant until 2013.  I don't believe this is true...01-01-2012 deadline for all providers!

If, indeed, TH will NOT be compliant for 5010 transactions, we will need to find another practice management software...any suggestions?

We have six licensed psychologists and have been using ENS/Ingenix as our clearinghouse for the past 4+ years.

I greatly appreciate any help...

Thank you!  Michelle

Yes there is a lot of chatter about Therapist Helper thinking mental health does not have to be compliant until 2013... POPPYCOCK!!  EVERY provider must be HIPAA 5010 ready by 1/1/2012. PERIOD.  And I have not received clarification of them being ready either. If you look back on this message board you will see there are a few people voicing same concerns. I have not seen/used TH in a while but I will tell you that I have had providers who had it and let's just say that was my first suggestion to them from the get go to "CHANGE".

And again.. It is HIPAA.. NOT HIPPA..
