Revenue Code for Hospital Stay
« on: August 09, 2008, 03:22:14 PM »
I work for a hospice agency where I do their on line medicare billing (UB92)  I recently submitted a medicare hospice claim on-line for payment where the patient had 10 days of hospital stay.  The revenue code that I entered for inpatient hospital stay was "0651" and HCPCS code "Q5005".  The claim was rejected by Medicare.  I could not find any other code to use for the hospital stay.  Any idea as to the revenue code and HCPCS code that should be used by a hospice agency when the patient has been admitted to the hospital?

Hi,
It looks like 0651 is for routine home care, so it sounds like your rev code may be wrong.  Rev code 0655 is for Inpatient Respite Care, is that more appropriate for what you are billing?

If not, I would call Medicare and ask them to give you an explanation of the denial.  They can usually help you figure out what you did wrong.

Good luck

Thanks Michele, I will give Medicare a call on next week.  I will also post my findings to share with others who may encounter this issue at some point in time.
