: Medical Billing for a Research Study
: blacknblue May 03, 2012, 09:52:57 PM
Hello,

I'm new to this so this question might seem silly but I need to make sure.

I'm in a research study where we routinely collect a 9mm (green) sodium heparin vacuette as part of the regular lab draws for patients. In case, the patient is poked uniquely for our study, then the venipuncture is charged into our research funding.

Today, due to other complicated events, the patient was poked just for our study and their blood was collected in a 9 mm red vacuette with no anticoagulant. The phlebotomist made a mistake by drawing the blood into the red tube. The tube was provided by the phlebotomist himself in the regular hospital.

Does changing a collection container change the billing for venipuncture in any way?

Thanks.

Changing the collection container should not change the billing for the venipuncture.
