Medical Billing Software priced for a Billing Service
« on: January 10, 2011, 09:12:13 PM »
Hi,
I am looking for some suggestions.  I run a billing service and we are looking to change to a web based system that has scheduling, billing, EMR, and the billing must have auto-posting.  We have 36 clients, mostly mental health along with chiropractic, ob/gyn and radiology.
I have emailed some companies and the prices are too expensive for us, the monthly cost would be more than we earn on some of our smaller clients.  I am looking for a company that can offer a price structure that would affordable for a billing service.
I have looked through some of the postings on here already and will be checking out CollaborateMD, Total MD, and Advanced MD but if anyone can suggest any others I would be very grateful.
Thank you
Lisa

Linda & All,
I am also thinking about using Kareo - from the demos I have seen it looks like an extremely user-friendly product without the high-end pricing/maintenance that the bigger companies (IDX/GE Centricity, etc.) use.  For those of you that are using Kareo, any comments or insight on their support? Implementation? Training? Thanks.....

I have no complaints and I also have many members using it with no problems. IF i had only one thing to say it would be that their training is not the best..they cater mostly to experienced billing companies who don't require a lot of training. Someone NEW to the business might find it a bit hard to learn.

Thanks for the suggestions!  I am looking at Kareo.  I am also looking at MDsuite and looking for any feedback.  We currently use one of their older non-hosted systems and have no complaints, but if anyone has anything we may need to know about MDsuite I would appreciate the information.

Thanks
Lisa

I am most likely going to sign up with Kareo.  I am trying to catch one of their webinars.

Queen,

Be careful...Kareo can be a bit expensive for someone new starting out-and remember, they charge 'per provider'...........why not go with a free system as you are starting out??  You can always move on to a better system if you wanted to as your client base grows :)

that is what I did...the providers that I deal with are only interested in the bottom line. What was paid, what is pending. I am looking to eventually go to a better system next year however, but will keep my free software for those providers who are very small and I can use that to train my people on. (my new project)

Yes, Kareo is a bit pricey and so are the other really good PM softwares out there. You should definitely shop around. Just keep in mind that with PM Software.. usually there is a big price to pay (time/money) in doing a data conversion. Many software companies charge extra for this and NO conversion is 100%.  You have to do what's right for you in starting out financially but also practically.. I WISH I had not switched software so often and had found the right one before the many headaches I went through with the cheap softwares in doing a conversion. The majority of my clients I work on their software anyway, I only offer mine if they want to make the switch and then if so I then include that per provider fee in my setup, so no loss. I put my business together on a shoe string budget and really did NOT account for potential growth .. I wish I had thought ahead.

This is true,  I was going to go with the cheapest package they have.  I am most likely going to use my office ally account..I need to call them for the training as well.

Do the free systems offer insurance verification and reports?  I will be logging into office ally  now.

Thankf for the advice Linda.  I have shopped around for the past year and a half and Kareo really seems to be the best option... when I get providers.  I like that there are no set up fees, when I looked into NUEMd is was $1500 to set up and I am not looking to pay that at the moment.

I use Office Ally and love it. For the providers that I bill for, it serves its purpose. There are better systems in place but you do have to pay for the "fringe benefits" Most of my providers just want the claims to get paid!! Office Ally is offering eligibility checks now on prescheduled appointments.

I thought CollaborateMD was most reasonable in pricing but thought their ledger and software was kinda clunky so I didn't go with them.  Maybe you can share your thoughts here once you demo with them.

Nearly all my clients have a need to watch their panels and payments very carefully so GOOD reports for me is a MUST!  Starting out with a free system does have it's perks in the beginning on a tight budget, but you have to have your future goals in front of you to really make a good informed decision that you can Grow WITH. Data conversions are pricey and complex.. Most software's are so proprietary and extracting data from them can be a real nightmare. Make sure you look at the future goals of your business and not just the here and now. Looking back there are so many things I did to try and save a buck and in the long run it cost me more in time and money. Remember you get what you pay for!

Queen,

I went with Kareo and I like it!  Both of my companies in the north do great with it.  If you add the provider fee into their inital monthly charges in figuring out your percentage or flat fee - you cover your self - now that I have over 20 accounts with them (providers) they give me a discount - just ask - everyone will give you a discount.  I really wanted to used eclinical works but the $20,000 price tag scared me.  You can email me if you have and questions.  my email is kelly@meditrustllc.com
