How to charge a provider when doing medical billing from home?
« on: February 20, 2016, 09:44:48 PM »
I recently became a medical biller and there's this pediatrician I want to submit claims for.

I plan to submit claims for her as well as deal with the account receivables and claim denials or appeals.

The thing is, I'm not exactly sure how to charge her for this.

If I wanted her to pay me every two weeks, what's the best way or method to charge her for my service?

I'm very concerned about this because I don't want to overcharge her nor undercharge her

Anyone's help would greatly be appreciated.

You could either charge a flat fee, or an hourly fee.  The problem with an hourly fee is that you need to earn more than an average in the office employee because of the cost of doing business from home.  Most providers think that they should just hire someone to do it from the office for less per hour.  If you are going to come up with a flat fee you should look at the volume of work that the provider does (how many patients are seen on average per day/week/month and what are the average charges for an office visit).  You can estimate the amount of time you will need to spend and put a flat fee on that time.  Have your contract specify an amount of time so that you can reevaluate your fee after say 4 or 6 months.  That way if you are way under (or over) you can adjust.

How do you want to charge for this? Are you a company, sub-contractor or independent contractor?
Are you in a state in which it is not illegal for a provider to enter into a fee-splitting arrangement where you can get a % of revenue
Do you want to receive a set hourly fee?
Do you want to provide full practice management, claims only, etc.. what services will you provide?

If I wanted her to pay me every two weeks, what's the best way or method to charge her for my service?

Again, are you operating as a business, sub-contractor, independent contractor?  This has to be defined right off the bat
Terms on payment will be in your contract with the provider. Generally business owners and contractors receive monthly reimbursement
