Medical Billing for Drug Screening via Treatment Centers

<< < (2/2)

Michele:
I should have mentioned that the urine screens we have billed for were all for office testing.  Not sure if that makes a big difference.

Ironic that a CA place is shipping to FL and an east coast facility is shipping to CA!

Also, best wishes to you in your sobriety.

Look at your EOB's from the insurance company to see exactly who is getting paid the $3600 your insurance allows. If it is the lab that is actually performing the testing/screening, then it sounds legit. If it is the facility you live in that is being paid, that would make me investigate further. I think that it is still an awful lot of money for a lab to make per drug screen(seeing as how surgeons get paid less to do major surgeries), but I don't bill for labs, so can't really say.

I say to investigate further if it is your facility being paid that money, when all they are doing is having someone urinate in a cup, then sending that cup with a lab requisition form via FedEx. No way is that worth $3600 each time to the facility.

PMRNC:
First of all .. congrats on taking the steps to become sober.. I have lived with addiction in my family and it sucks so you taking the steps is a great accomplishment!

What the others have said is most likely the way you have to play it. You need to get with your facilithy and your insurance company to see what is being billed and what is being paid. From there you can determine whether or not the facility is in compliance. YOU must see what your carrier is considering, allowing and paying first.

Scott:
I run a company that selss medication and does billing for the medications. We are also starting to bill for Work Comp Drug Screening for the last few years. It's profitable, but the #'s I'm seeing in this post and what I've heard rumored about drug treatment and sober living drug screening testing, I want to get into that part of the business. I hear that bills are going out at 5K and paying around $3,500. Does anyone know the billing code used? CPT code?

Michele:
I'm sorry but I'm not familiar with the type of billing that is being discussed here.  That is why we suggested that the patient contact the insurance carrier to find out exactly what is being billed for.
