Family Therapy Workshop
« on: December 18, 2015, 10:41:48 PM »
Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to bill a Family Therapy Workshop? It consists of about 3 days of intense lengthened family therapy sessions. Overall it is over a period of approx. 3 days and is about 18 hours total. If billing Family Therapy 90847, no payers want to cover more than like one unit (60min) a day. So a big portion of these will not get covered. Is there a better code or way to let the payer know it is a more intense and longer needed Family Therapy Workshop?

I highly doubt you will find any carrier to pay more than one unit per day. Also most will require authorization so you can get the authorizations and let patient know in advance their out of pocket, but if you are participating with the carrier you may not be able to collect more than the one unit per day depending on your fee schedule.
