Hospital billing is for the facility charges for any services performed in a hospital.  Hospice billing is for services performed by a Hospice company and are usually performed in a patient's home.  Both are filed on UB04 forms.

It is very clear for me the difference of hospital and hospice and thank you for your prompt reply Michele. Now the question that comes in my mind is that, how do I determine whether the claims is under hospice claim or hospital claim?

Thank you and God Bless..

The rev codes for hospital will be slightly different than rev codes for hospice.  Are you doing the billing for both hospital and hospice?  If so, it should be given to you as either hospital charges, or hospice charges.  I'm not sure why you would need to figure out which is which.

Thanks for your reply. It sounds you are annoyed::).  I'm sorry...

Actually I'm not doing hospice or hospital billing claims. It`s just that I am just interested to know it because I really want to learn in the field of billing aside from enrolling in a medical billing/coding school.I presume that forum can help people to learn new things at it can develop your knowledge too through exchanging ideas.

No I wasn't annoyed.  Sorry if it sounded that way.   :-[

I just couldn't figure out from what angle you were coming to answer the questions so I was going round and round with myself!

Anyway, if you are doing billing you wouldn't get hospice and hospital billing from the same place, so you would know by who you are billing for.  Also, hospital billing would be using places of service 21 - inpatient, 22 outpatient.  Hospice would be using 12 - home.

Hospital billing would be for room & board, etc.  Hospice billing would be for possibly equipment for home, visiting nurses, etc.

Hope that helps, and doesn't sound annoyed.   :D

I guess I shouldn't try to answer questions before bedtime.  We put this forum up to help people, so I certainly wouldn't want anything thinking we don't want to help.
