: Dropping medicare but continuing care. Are we able to write prescriptions 4 pts.

We are a psychiatrists office in Texas. We are thinking about dropping out as providers for Medicare. Our question is that we know some of our patients will continue to see us even if we are out of network but when our patient goes to fill their prescriptions, will Medicare deny them? Part B & D is what the doctors wants to know. (Some reason, I question this but)

Does anyone have any feedback?

I would recommend calling your regional Medicare office and asking to be sure.  That would be sad for the patients if the medication wouldn't be covered.

Another thing you want to do is hire a good consultant to come and do a complete analysis of your practice revenue so that you make sure dropping Medicare is the right choice. I understand many doctors are dropping both Medicare and Medicaid out of principal and I myself have been hired to consult with providers to get them out but before I do that, I make sure a provider CAN AFFORD to get out.. Not all practices will survive getting out of Medicare.

Thank you! I think you might be right.
