Going from group provider to individual
« on: September 10, 2014, 12:02:32 PM »
Hi, I contracted with a therapist who owns her own business so I could start getting paneled and then move on to my own, I currently need to work at an agency full time due to financial reasons.  She told me she would help me get paneled but so far I am paneled under HER group.  When I talked with her about helping me, she said she never told me that.  Anyway, my questions is this:  should I continue to work part time at this group for peanuts (she gets half)  and get paneled under her group....I am on list for BCBS and Tricare, and already a provider for Aetna, but, again, all under her, not my own individual.  If it will make it easier for me to go individual then I will stay but if it makes no difference, then I am wasting my time.  Thanks for any help.  Yes, I am a licensed mental health counselor in Florida.

Our group went thru this last year.   We had 2 providers to leave our group.   When I contacted the networked insurance companies, we just had to send a letter stating that the providers were no longer with our group with an effective date.   All the networked insurance companies told me that the providers still had contracts, that the contracts just would not be linked to her group, tax id, etc. anymore.   I would just call the insurance companies.  Hope this helps.

I believe that rdmoore2003 is correct.  Even though you are 'under her group' you are contracted with the insurance carriers.  So when you decide to leave, or if you decide to see patient's on your own even while you are working there (see some patients at your own location on your own time) you will just need to notify each insurance carrier so that they can set you up.
