: Billing EAP companies

I am going to be doing billing for a client that is a LCSW and participates in EAP's just wondering if anyone out there has billed EAP companies and what your experiences were with them

We have billed a few EAP's but not a whole bunch.  They really haven't been a problem.  We just printed out a claim on a regular CMS and then attached the EAP paperwork.

I have worked for a mental health practice and we too billed EAP.  it all depends on which EAP you are billing to as to how they would like the billing.  Most are about the same and have their own paperwork that the provider fills out and they are usually billed after all sessions have been used (but again this depends on which EAP as to how they want it done, there are some that want it after each session).  The provider completes their required paperwork, most times there are forms that the patient signs at the first visit also, and their billing sheet that goes along with everything and then just fax all the paperwork to their office.  EAPs are pretty straight forward and usually pay timely.  The best bet is to always call to ask them how they would like to receive the billing and ask if they have their own paperwork that the provider/patient must complete and if so have them fax it to you and keep additional copies on hand for future patients that may use the same EAP.  You can ask this at the time you call to verify and recieve authorization, number of visits authorized and most usually have a time period that all sessions must be completed; some only give 3 months and others 6 months, but most will extend the auth if all visits have not been completed in the time period.  Again, you can ask all this at the time you call to get the authorization.

Hope this helps.
