: Laboratory Opioid drug testing
: Ruthie1972 August 10, 2017, 02:53:00 PM
Hello
Is there anyone here that can give me some tips on opiod laboratory testing? I recently started working for a company who provides collectors for sites and most of the locations are self pay.  Do you find that this type of testing is OON, and if so, can you get Ins to pay In network? Are there specific codes that pay more than others? Thank you.

We had a provider who did these test but he stopped doing them because the reimbursement for them being done in the provider's office is so low it doesn't even cover the cost of the test kit.  If the provider is in network then the testing is processed in network.  Even Medicare covers the tests, it's just that the reimbursement is very low.  When we spoke to provider reps about it they said that the patients can go to a lab to have it done.  So the provider stopped performing the tests in his office.

Thank you Michele. Also, do you know any rules of why the collector may not read results?

Sorry abut I do not know the rules regarding who can read results.  My thought is that it would have to be an MD, DO, NP or PA.
