Is it legal or HIPAA compliant to have online storage of your billing data to protect against any accidental loss? Any ideas how to keep this data safe and secure?  Thanks.

It is legal as long as the company that you use is compliant and meets all HIPAA standards for protection of PHI.

I was planning to use MozyHome online data storage service.  They charge about $5.00 a month.

I think your better off using a company that has a brand for medical offices, for example Efax has a branded application for secure transmission specifically for healthcare to ensure HIPAA compliance.   Rememeber HIPAA guidelines  with BAA's.. so don't go with a company that can't ASSURE you of HIPAA compliance.

I'm not completely trusting of online storage..(my own quirk..not passing judgement) but I found a few online by typing in HIPAA compliant data storage, one that popped up a bit was this one: http://www.globaldatavault.com/hipaa.htm
