: Problem submitting secondary claims electronically to Medicare

Question
Hello,

I am the medical biller at ____(removed by Michele)______ I
have been having trouble with submitting secondary claims electronically to
Medicare. First of all, I have never submitted a secondary claim
electronically - and secondly, when I read their "communique" I find that
one has to be a computer technician that understands loops and segments in
order to be able to execute what's being explained. I have Altapoint as our
billing software, and we use ENS as our clearing house. Do you have any
solutions to offer?

Thank you so much for your time.
Claire

Answer
Hi,
We actually went thru similar issues when we started our 2ndaries electronically.  We don't go thru a clearinghouse, we use software that acts as a clearinghouse.  Our vendor is who had to make the necessary changes in the 'loops and segments.'  I know what you are referring to, but even with a
4 yr degree in computer programming, I can't fix that myself.  You need to contact your support at Altapoint and tell them the specific error.  For example, "loop 2010 seg a has to have the rendering providers NPI"  They need to 'map' the query to fit the requirements.

Good luck
Michele

There is not special software for secondary claims.  Your PM system should be capable of submitting secondary claims electronically (if it does primary claims electronically).  You should contact your software vendor to see what you need to do.
