We had a pt come in because of a retained tampon; however, the dr did not find one.  What dx code do i use?   Thanks   ???

dang we had this in the ER...but she had a tampon, well french tickler stuck in her for a while.....can you say FOUL

It's actually NOT that uncommon and the patient's feel embarressed enough without having to be made fun of. I have an Uncle who is an ER doctor in Florida and he told me this happens A LOT.

939.2 may be your code if there were no primary symptoms.  believe it out not these is not an uncommon procedure and occurs often in the vaginal and rectal areas.  Char, you just made my day with that comment.  Modify as I just noticed that no foreign object was found.  I believe that there is a V code for that.  but again her symptoms s/b coding first.

I once billed an ecnounter for a patient who "lost" a clove of garlic in her vagina.  She was self-treating for a yeast infection.
