: Home Health for Physical Therapy Billing
: PTBILLER February 22, 2009, 01:28:04 PM
Hi Michelle-

I know you are located in NY and am interested to get your input on this subject.  I bill exclusively for Physical Therapy and have my own business.  I have a lot of experience in this field, but have never billed for home health.  I called Medicare, but did not get good answers.

1. POS-my software has many different "service locations" so I can use "home" as POS.  Just want to double check to make sure this is correct.

2. Is the coding different?  example (initial eval is 97001GP)-is this the same for home health?  Same with therapuetic exercise (97110GP), etc.  ??

3.  Box 32 on CMS 1500-Blank?

4.  Lastly (on this subject)...my providers are Med. B providers.  Are they even allowed to bill for home health?

I always love to get your monthly newsletters from your mother (Alice)...tell her she is awesome!!  I have a couple more questions, but they are much shorter.  I'll start a new topic.  Thanks for any help you can give me!!

Well, I guess I don't have to tell her, she read the post before me!  :)

Anyway, in answer to your questions:

1.  Yes, you can use home, or 12 for the POS

2.  Coding would be the same

3.  This is not a clear cut answer.  There have been other posts on this as well.  Some say it must be left blank, others say to use the office address there.  I think it will depend on your area, and the individual carriers.

4.  They can bill for PT in the home, if the patient has the medical necessity.

Hope that helps.

Michele

Thanks to both of you.  I love coming here to double check if I ever have questions.  Is there a good "changes" that billers could actually post changes that certain carriers have coming up?  This would be so helpful!
