: Timely Claim Submission
: jcbilling August 07, 2009, 12:51:16 AM
I'm curious what timeframe everyone strives for in getting their claims submitted.

We usually get them done within 48-72 hours upon receipt from the client. Is that slow?

Do you guarantee your clients that they will be submitted in a certain timeframe? If so, what a good benchmark to reach for?

Any thoughts?

Thats not slow. I have a 24-48 hr turn around depending on our set-up.

I don't put a time limit in my contract, it's within a reasonable time which I consider to be 24-72 hours.

OK - I had a client today who was a little upset that they weren't entered within 24 hours and I want to be sure we are being efficient in getting the claims out.

24-72 hours is not unreasonable as a turn around time once data is received. It takes time to enter the data and to verify that the information you've been given is true, accurate, and correct.  The billing company I worked for had a 72 hour turn around time limit.

Once all data has been entered, everyone stopped working and made calls to ensure that
(a) the insurance info provided was correct.
(b)  The policy is still in effect
(c)  verified claims address as being accurate.
(d)  checked prior dates of service for insurance that paid to move uninsured patient to insurance responsibility.
(e)  called uninsured for possible insurance coverage.

We saved so much money by doing this because we didnt send claims where policies were terminated or there was other insurance that was primary or the patient forgot to give insurance at the time of service.

I saw my GI physician and checking on my claim status noticed it took them 15 days to submit my claim to BCBS.

Yes this was the GI that I spoke with that was contemplating closing down 2 of his 3 offices. He stated to me his overhead was 60% He has 4 billers. We talked about my services, but at the moment he is undecided.
